A handsome example of Provençal pottery, this 19th century terra cotta confit jar retains its original glazed finish and characteristic ear handles. Originally used for storing rendered duck fat and preserving confit in the kitchens and cellars of southern France—the heartland of duck and goose cookery—these sturdy vessels were essential to traditional charcuterie and preservation.
The jar stands 9 ½" tall with a 6 ¼" diameter and features traditional loop handles on either side—practical for lifting and pouring, and a charming detail that speaks to its utilitarian origins. The warm, earthy glaze and honest patina reflect decades of use in a working French kitchen.
Perfect as a decorative accent, utensil crock, or sculptural object on a kitchen counter or open shelf. A beautiful piece of culinary history from the gastronomic traditions of Provence.
